How to use

1
Open Portal Drop on your laptop A QR code and shareable link appear automatically — no sign-in needed.
2
Scan the QR code with your phone Use your phone's camera app or Chrome. Keep both tabs open the whole time.
3
Drop or tap to send files Files transfer instantly, directly between devices. Nothing ever touches a server.

💡 Same WiFi = fastest connection. Portal Drop also works across different networks (e.g. phone on mobile data, laptop on WiFi) — it automatically finds a relay path. When the session ends, click Start New Session to transfer more.

Connection is end-to-end encrypted via WebRTC (DTLS-SRTP). Our server only relays the initial handshake — room codes expire automatically once both devices disconnect, and no file ever passes through it.

How to Use

  1. Step 1: Select a file or paste text into the drop zone.
  2. Step 2: Share the generated connection link with the recipient.
  3. Step 3: Keep your browser tab open until the recipient downloads the file.

Example Calculation

Scenario: Sending a 50MB PDF directly to a colleague.

  • File Size: 50MB
  • Connection: WebRTC

Result: Transferred securely with zero server storage.

Because it uses WebRTC, the file is sent directly from your browser to theirs, bypassing cloud storage entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a file size limit?

While WebRTC can handle large files, we recommend keeping transfers under 1GB for browser stability.
